Meet Carlos…

For years I’ve been called many things: musician, piano teacher, author, husband, dad, friend, immigrant, student, mentor… and probably a few others that depended on whether I had remembered to take the bins out.

If I had to choose just one word, though, I think I’d call myself a facilitator.

Someone who enjoys creating the conditions in which people discover something for themselves.

The funny part is that, while I seem quite good at helping others simplify things, I’m also remarkably talented at occasionally making life more complicated than it needs to be. Thankfully, life has become a patient teacher, gently reminding me that the shortest path is often the one that allows us to pause, listen and begin again.

Music was my first genuine classroom, teaching became my laboratory. And writing gave me space to organise my thoughts.

Parenthood… well, parenthood quietly rearranged the whole curriculum.

It taught me that some of life’s most important lessons aren’t found in books or qualifications, but in ordinary moments shared with extraordinary people.

So, if you’re still curious, here’s a slightly unconventional CV.

Carlos Uzcategui’s CV (Raw & Unfiltered)

Current Position: Still Learning

So far, it’s the only position I’ve managed to keep for life.

Previous Experience

Responsibilities:

  • Professional encourager.
  • Full-time listener.
  • Builder of blanket forts and confidence.
  • Finder of missing toys, socks and occasionally myself.
  • Expert in difficult questions and making pancakes in unusual shapes.
  • Daily student of patience.
  • Practitioner of unconditional love – patience.
  • Constantly reminded that children are often the best teachers.

Skills acquired

  • Explaining complicated things with simple words (ongoing)
  • Knowing when to speak… and when a hug works better.
  • Celebrating tiny victories.
  • Learning to let go of being right.

What I’ve Learned So Far

I’ve spent much of my life around people who wanted to learn something.

For instance, a child trying to play their first melody. And parents trying to support that child.

A musician searching for expression. Maybe someone recovering their health. Or…

Just someone looking for a fresh start.

Over the years I began to notice something. People rarely struggle because they lack potential.

More often, they struggle because they no longer trust it. Some have forgotten how creative they are. Others have convinced themselves they’re “not musical”, “not confident”, or “just not that kind of person.”

I’ve heard those sentences many times. I’ve even said a few of them to myself. Perhaps that’s why I enjoy asking questions more than giving answers.

In other words, creating safe spaces instead of delivering solutions.

Listening before speaking.

Whether I’m teaching, writing, making music or simply sharing a conversation over a cup of tea, my hope is always the same:

That people leave feeling a little lighter…

a little clearer…

and perhaps a little more willing to trust their own rhythm.

I don’t think any of us need to become someone else. Sometimes we simply need a little space to remember who we’ve been all along.
